Our soba is handcrafted in-house using stone-ground buckwheat flour from Kitasorachi, Hokkaido. Made in the rustic nihachi soba style (80% buckwheat, 20% wheat), it boasts exceptional flavor, aroma, and a delightfully smooth texture—qualities we take great pride in.
Our udon is also homemade with great care: cold udon is served flat-cut, while hot udon is served thick-cut to perfectly suit the dish.
In addition to our noodles, we offer a variety of side dishes, including tempura and homemade kyarabuki (braised butterbur). These pair wonderfully with our selection of sake and shochu. For soba enthusiasts, enjoying a bowl of our signature noodles with a cup of sake is an exquisite experience not to be missed. Be sure to give it a try!

The exterior of our restaurant is designed in black tones to reflect the imposing atmosphere of the historic Hakone Sekisho. The lattice doors are styled to resemble the menu boards of the past, subtly shielding the view of passersby while creating an inviting accent.
Inside, the decor is kept simple and understated, with the choba (cashier area) featuring a striking red wooden wall as a focal point, adding a touch of elegance to the space.

Denbei Soba is located right in front of the Hakone Sekisho on the south side of Lake Ashinoko. Our ancestors have lived in this area since the Edo period. (While we began making noodles around 1950, the soba restaurant has been welcoming guests since the early 2000s.)
The Hakone Sekisho was established in 1619 by the Edo Shogunate in this renowned strategic location, nestled between the rugged mountains known as "Tenka no Ken" (the steepest terrain under heaven) and Lake Ashinoko. Among Japan's many Sekishos, it stood alongside other major ones like Usui, Kisofukushima, and Arai on the Tokaido route.
At Denbei Soba, we strive to preserve the atmosphere of this historic era by incorporating traditional design elements such as wooden walls, noren curtains, and lanterns. Our signature soba, combined with this unique ambiance, has made us a favorite destination for guests from around the world, as well as from across Japan.
When visiting Hakone or Lake Ashinoko, make your way to the Hakone Sekisho on the Kyoguchi side, and we look forward to welcoming you!
